• Mission Statement

  • The mission of the East End Neighborhood Association Elm Street Project (EENA ESP) is to create an environment conducive to community enhancement by coordinating religious, civic, political and economic efforts within the east end of West Chester. The EENA ESP will be proactive and responsive to the needs of all stakeholders that are a vital part of the revitalization of the east end neighborhood. The EENA ESP will aim to be a resource to anybody trying to advance the quality of life in the east end.
  • Strategic Goals
    1. To create a community that is supportive to all of its members
    2. To establish, maintain and nurture public spaces that serve as space for recreation, the arts and education
    3. To reclaim, rehabilitate, and rejuvenate the physical surroundings of the East End while preserving the urban character that makes it so special
    4. To identify and coordinate civic, religious, social and political institutions that will serve and be served by the East End Neighborhood Association's Elm Street efforts
    5. To instill pride in the historical legacies which are a part of the East End
    6. To better connect residents of the East End to economic opportunities offering employment, goods and services

  • Safe, Clean, Green
    • Improving streets and alleys by improving lighting and by reducing traffic and trash
    • Making the community greener through parks and gardens and well-place and maintained trees
    • Adding to the neighborhood safety through a community based block watch
    • Coordinating clean up efforts
    • Continuing to find creative ways to root out animal problems

    Image and Economy
    • Helping to improve neighborhood pride through events and awards
    • Improving communications through newsletters, media and website
    • Creating a physical identity that says, "I'm in the East End and I like it!"
    • Documenting and preserving neighborhood history to pass on the stories of now and then to future generations
    • Recognizing historic buildings and stories through sign placement

    Design
    • Maintaining the unique character of the East End as an attractive neighborhood with unique buildings and features
    • Improving EENA's ability to influence private development efforts to preserve unique design
    • Improving ability to create affordable housing that contributes to the neighborhood
    • Working with borough to enforce code violations
    • Implementing a home repair and home safety training program

    Neighbors and Economy
    • Creating strong partnerships with BID, local schools, churches, area agencies, and local government
    • Improving local job and business market for East End residents
    • Implementing a series of homeownership programs that will prepare people for ownership and offer façade improvement assistance
    • Increasing attractive housing options to add stability to the neighborhood
    • Addressing needs for community programming for youth, adults and seniors
    • Remedying blighted properties

    Sustainable Organization
    • Developing, implementing and maintaining a long-term organization strategy
    • Coordinating staff and volunteer efforts
    • Developing human, financial and community resources to sustain EENA
    • Creating and implementing a comprehensive communications plan
